(2) Will the Minister clarify that bicycles are -
(a) legitimate, recognised road users even when adjacent to a shared cycle/walk path;
(b) not restricted on any roadway except the freeway system; a section of Roe Highway south of the intersection with Great Eastern Highway; and a section of Tonkin Highway between Great Eastern Highway and Guildford Road?
(3) Are the above stipulation’s of the Road Traffic Code included in the curriculum at the Police Training Academy?
(4) Will the Minister direct the police to stop interfering with cyclists legitimately using roads?
(5) Does the Minister support people being encouraged to commute on bicycles?

Regulation 213 of the Road Traffic Code 2000 stipulates that “wherever a bicycle lane is provided as part of a carriageway, and is in a reasonable condition for use, a rider of a bicycle shall use that portion of a carriageway and no other”. (2b) In accordance with Part 20 (General) of the Road Traffic Code 2000, in addition to the areas mentioned, other restrictions may apply from time to time. (3) During their six months at the Academy, recruits are provided with comprehensive training in the application of criminal law, including the Road Traffic Act 1974 and Road Traffic Code 2000. Furthermore, all police officers have electronic access to this legislation as well as support from supervisors if they are unclear on any specific aspects. (4) I am not aware of police interfering with cyclists legitimately using roads. If the Hon Member has specific details I would be happy to raise them with the Commissioner of Police. (5) Yes
