I refer to WAPOL's participation in Operation Unification to crack down on illicit firearms and I ask: (a) how many firearms in Western Australia are currently recorded on the system as unlicensed; (b) what are total numbers of licensed firearms in Western Australia; and (c) what is the current delay in processing firearm applications?

(a) 3,066 as at 27 May 2013*.
*  Data includes all licences that have a status of 'Expired Unresolved' and firearms which are listed as still being licensed on the Firearms Registry System.
This includes a significant number of historical licence matters where holders have left the State, are deceased, have reported their firearms lost/stolen or are in the process of re-licensing or disposing of their firearm/s or have simply failed to renew their licence
(b) 270,392 as at 24 May 2013.
(c) There is no delay in processing firearm applications. The average working days for the current financial year as at April 2013 to process firearm applications for - Original firearms applications is: 35.3 days and for Additional firearm applications is: 28.6 days.
