(3-5) Surface mining operations for these metals on State forest have in recent years been small in area and intermittent in frequency, so the volumes of sawlogs arising from such activities have not been calculated annually. Areas proposed for mining in State forest and timber reserves are included in the strategic inventories managed by the Department of Conservation and Land Management. (6) Generally the Department of Conservation and Land Management, in liaison with the Forest Products Commission, has generated estimates on a case-by-case basis of log resources for mine sites in State forest.
