I congratulate the minister on dealing with the back end of the issue, which needs to be done. My question was whether the minister will resource programs to look at preventing violence in the first place in the emergency departments. Mr J.A. McGINTY

As nurse Gilchrist said to the media assembled this morning when describing her circumstances, the support provided included the encouragement to report such offences and matters of that nature. Programs are already in place to properly equip nurses, particularly those in our emergency departments, to deal with problems when they present. The assistance is already there. This sort of behaviour is so unacceptable that if anybody has a constructive suggestion to help make these workplaces safe, I will be more than happy to look at it. If it is a constructive solution and has the support of clinicians, nurses and other staff in our public hospitals, particularly our emergency departments, it will be resourced.
