VenuesWest contract—Eastside Concrete
739. Mr Basil Zempilas to
the Premier:
I
refer to the "cash for Coffin Cheaters" scandal.
(1) Is the contract between
VenuesWest and the company linked to an outlaw motorcycle gang still in place?
(2) If the police have
information on companies and corporate entities that have associations with outlaw
motorcycle gangs, why have they not been barred from receiving taxpayer-funded
contracts?

(1)–(2) I thank the
member for the question. Of course taxpayer money should not be going to
businesses that are run by hardened criminals. We take this matter extremely
seriously. We are seeking legal and police advice. This issue has probably
existed for some decades. Given our tough stance on bikies, we are keen to
ensure that protocols prevent any real or perceived situation of this type.
