FINANCE BROKERS SCANDAL VICTIMS - COMPENSATION
As a supplementary question, given the Attorney General’s response, what does he intend to do to fulfil his election promise to help these long-suffering retirees? Mr J.A. McGINTY

As the member for Churchlands is well aware, the Labor Party gave five specific commitments to assist the victims of the finance brokers scandal as a result of the mistreatment they received at the hands of a variety of corrupt people and of the Liberal government that was asleep at the wheel at that time. Those five commitments included holding the Temby royal commission; the establishment of a legal assistance fund, which has so far recovered many millions of dollars for finance broker victims and which is funded through the Legal Aid Commission of Western Australia; and making available documents that would otherwise be covered by legal professional privilege. Each of the five commitments the Labor Party gave were specific commitments to ensure that we did everything we could to help those people. They are the commitments that we gave and which we have honoured.
