Synergy—Procurement process
438. Hon Philip Scott to
the Leader of the House representing the
Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation:
(1) Regarding the recently demolished
Kwinana power station, was any national security assessment or procedure done
in relation to the use of Chinese state–operated Contemporary Amperex
Technology Co Limited (CATL) batteries, which will be used in the new renewable
battery storage facility?
(2) Why did the WA government choose a
directly Chinese-owned CATL supply arrangement for the Kwinana renewables
facility, rather than prioritising suppliers from allied countries, such as
South Korea, Japan, Europe or the United States?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(2) Synergy undertakes appropriate due
diligence as part of its tendering and contract processes, and it complies with
all state and federal government guidelines and requirements regarding the
procurement of lithium-ion batteries.
