I refer to the specialist hand surgery services at Fremantle and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospitals, and I ask, for each hospital: (a) how many outpatient appointments were undertaken in the last six weeks and how many have been booked for the next six weeks; (b) how many operations were undertaken in the past six weeks and how many are scheduled for the next six weeks; (c) how many patients are presently waiting for an outpatient appointment with the hand service; and (d) how many patients are presently waitlisted for hand surgery?

As at 8 September 2016-
(a) There were 1,977 attended appointments in the last six weeks for specialist hand surgery services at Fremantle Hospital. In the next six weeks there are 72 booked new appointments and 679 booked follow-up appointments. It should be noted that the next six weeks of appointments at Fremantle Hospital are not yet fully booked and additional patients, such as those needing urgent care, will be booked and seen within this period.
Data is not available from the central Outpatient Data Collection for Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) as this site, unlike Fremantle Hospital, does not have a comprehensive set of designated specialist hand clinics in the Patient Administration System. Rather, hand services are provided via clinics more generally classified as, for example, orthopaedics, occupational therapy, various forms of rehabilitation and pain management.
(b) 124 surgery cases have been undertaken in the last six weeks at Fremantle Hospital and 14 surgery cases are booked for the next six weeks. The majority of hand surgery cases are trauma cases which by their nature cannot be booked in advance.
40 surgery cases have been undertaken in the last six weeks at SCGH and 34 surgery cases are booked for the next six weeks.
(c) There are 640 patients waiting for a first outpatient appointment with the hand service at Fremantle Hospital.
Data is not available for SCGH as per the reason outlined in the response to (a).
(d) There are currently 47 surgery cases on the waitlist for Fremantle Hospital and 71 surgery cases on the waitlist for SCGH.
