PERTH FREIGHT LINK — STAGE 2
787. Mr M. McGOWAN to the Minister for
Transport:
My question without notice is to the
Minister for Transport.
Several members interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Thank you, Leader of the Opposition.
Mr
M. McGOWAN : I refer to the former Minister for Transport's claim
that the state would lose about $23 million by not proceeding with the tunnel
option on stage 2 —
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Thank
you. Member for Churchlands, I call you to order for the first time. Carry on.
Mr M. McGOWAN : I refer
to the former Minister for Transport's claim that the state would be
losing around $23 million by not proceeding with the tunnel option on stage 2
of the Perth Freight Link, and the Premier's claim last month —
With respect to the talk of about
$23 million and the like, I have no evidence of any such figure at all
(1) Was the
Premier correct when he said there was no evidence of this $23 million figure?
(2) If not,
how much has been spent on getting stage 2 of the Perth Freight Link to the
preferred proponent stage?

I thank the
Leader of the Opposition for the question.
(1)–(2)
We have made no decision on Roe 9 yet. We have made a decision only on Roe 8.
We are getting on and building Roe 8. As I have said, there are many options
for Roe 9. One of them is the tunnel option. Work has been done on the tunnel
option and the current sunk costs are around the $23 million mark.
