I refer to the Parkerville Stoneville Mt Helena Bushfire Review which recommended automatic vehicle location technology should be adopted to enable a better appreciation of the deployment and location of appliances at an incident, in order to increase situational awareness and I ask: (a) at what stage is the installation of this technology in vehicles; and (b) when do you anticipate that the total fleet will have this technology fitted?

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) advises:
(a) - (b) The functional specifications of the Automated Vehicle location (AVL) system are expected to be completed by the end of 2014, and will be tendered and procured separately and then integrated with other crew protection components.
The comprehensive crew protection implementation is part of a four year program comprising several separate contracts for implementing crew protection systems, as part of the larger Future Fleet Project. The AVL program rollout is intended to be completed by October 2017.
