Hon Donna Faragher questions the Minister for Community Services regarding the disparity in service agreement extension lengths for community centres under the Empowering Communities program, specifically why some received only 12-month extensions while others received five-year extensions. The Minister confirms the 12-month extension recipients transitioned into the program on 1 July 2022 and further extensions are subject to meeting program outcomes.

EMPOWERING
COMMUNITIES PROGRAM — FUNDING
151. Hon DONNA FARAGHER to the minister representing the
Minister for Community Services:
I refer to the answer provided to question without notice
122, asked yesterday, about community centres funded under the Empowering
Communities program.
(1) Why were nine centres offered only a 12-month
extension to their service agreement, rather than a five-year extension
like other centres?
(2) Can the
minister confirm that the centres that have been offered only a 12-month
extension are centres that had successfully transitioned into the Empowering
Communities program by 30 June 2022?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question. The following response has been provided by the Minister for
Community Services.
(1)–(2) The Department of Communities advises that
all community centres that were offered a 12-month extension transitioned into the Empowering Communities
program on 1 July 2022. Consideration for further extensions is subject
to the requirements that the community centres continue to meet the Empowering
Communities program outcomes.
