(1) How many
local government authorities are currently under state government–initiated
investigations or inquiries?
(2) Which authorities are they?
(3) How long has each of these
investigations or inquiries been running?
(4) What is the cost to date of
each of these investigations or inquiries?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The
Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries currently has six
authorised inquiries underway.
(2)–(3) The Town of Cambridge inquiry commenced in April
2018 and is nearing completion; the Shire of Toodyay inquiry commenced in December 2018 and is nearing
completion; the Shire of Wiluna inquiry commenced in November 2019; the
City of Cockburn inquiry commenced in April 2020; the City of Subiaco inquiry
commenced in May 2020; and the Shire of Coolgardie inquiry commenced in June
2020.
(4) The
department does not record specific costs for individual inquiries unless there
is a specific reason to do so. An authorised inquiry is part of the agency's
core business.
