QuestionView source ↗

(b) under what kinds of circumstances would male and female offenders be housed in the same prison?
(b) These prisons are located in regional areas and each is equipped to accommodate females within the women’s sections of the prisons. When placing female prisoners in prisons that house both male and female prisoners, consideration is given to family and community issues, such as the facilitation of family visits. Consideration may also be given to medical and health issues and pending court appearances. On rare occasions it has been necessary to house women prisoners in male-only prisons, where the prisoners require special medical treatment/observation, which has not been otherwise available at the time.
