1) Yes. (2) In July 2005 the term for the Children and Young People in Care Advisory Committee expired. Subsequently the Care for Children and Young People Advisory Committee was formed with a different membership. The functions and names of both groups have been similar. (3a-b) Chairperson Mr Jack Busch, Independent Chairperson Mr Busch retired in 2002 after 32 years in the WA Public Sector. In addition to being Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Sport and Recreation for almost ten years, Mr Busch has held positions on many state government committees and boards. Mr Busch has voluntary roles as Vice President of the National Heart Foundation (WA) and State President of Master Swimming WA. Leaving care has been identified as one of the major transitions for young people in the out-of-home care sector and it is expected this kit will be launched in 2007. Communication Strategy - "Good News Stories" The Committee is identifying situations where good outcomes have been achieved for children and young people in out-of-home care, communicating these stories to the wider community to present positive images of children and young in care and promoting foster carers. Indigenous Children in Care The Committee has supported a consultation with Indigenous people in the Cannington area and in Port Hedland on issues for children in care where their parents are alcohol or drug dependent. Support for Carers Project A research project has been commissioned by the Foster Care Association of WA on the impact of fostering on the biological children of foster carers. The Committee is considering the outcomes of this research project and has agreed to fund the reprint of the Carer's Charter of Rights to include recognition of the biological children of foster carers.
