I thank the member for the question. It is a great
question.
(1)–(2) It was fantastic to be at Osborne Park Hospital this
morning with the members for Balcatta, Mount Lawley, Mirrabooka and
Kingsley to do the sod turning for the redevelopment of Osborne Park Hospital.
We made a commitment at the last election
for a $24.9 million redevelopment to expand the neonatal facilities and
upgrade them to 2A neonatal facilities so that mums in the northern suburbs
with low to moderate risk pregnancies could deliver their babies locally in the
communities in which they live.
In
addition to that, we made a commitment around election time to expand
rehabilitation services in the northern suburbs because, as members would be
aware, rehabilitation services were substantially taken to Fiona Stanley
Hospital once Shenton Park was decommissioned. As a result, there was a dearth
of rehabilitation services in the northern suburbs. The expansion includes a 10-bed
rehabilitation unit at the hospital,
which will be a significant boost to the rehabilitation of patients who are
recovering from operations or from trauma. They will be able to receive care
and treatment in the northern suburbs. When completed, a centralised therapy hub will be the first of its
kind for Perth's northern suburbs. It will provide inpatient and
outpatient services to thousands of people requiring rehabilitation in a contemporary
environment.
This is a $24 million redevelopment
for which the construction component has been awarded to ADCO, an Australian
family-owned company. Representatives were on site today and are keen to get on
and to be part of the McGowan government's redevelopment of northern
suburbs health services. Let us have a look at those services. It comes on top
of our $257.7 million redevelopment of Joondalup Health Campus, which is on top
of our redevelopment of the stroke unit at Joondalup hospital; our $8 million
investment in the new Yanchep medical facility; our upgrades to the mental
health observation area at Joondalup hospital; and our upgrades to the
emergency department at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. We have made investment
after investment because the McGowan Labor government wants to put patients
first. In particular, due to the great advocacy of government members for the
northern suburbs, we are putting northern suburbs patients first.
