PRINCESS MARGARET HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN — MINISTER FOR HEALTH'S
COMMENTS
214. Mr M. McGOWAN to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question.
(1) Will the
Premier confirm his remarks of a moment ago that the health minister did not
say those words?
(2) Will the
Premier request that the minister follow the advice of some of the affected
parents and spend a week sleeping on one of the plastic recliners in the cancer
ward at that hospital, as they have asked him to do?

(1)–(2) The health minister tells me that that
headline was out of context and he was referring —
Mr M. McGowan : But
did he say it?
Mr C.J. BARNETT :
Mr Speaker —
Several members interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Members!
Mr
M. McGowan : Did you mislead the house?
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : Do not be ridiculous!
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Members!
Mr C.J. BARNETT :
Mr Speaker —
Ms M.M. Quirk interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Girrawheen, I call you to order for the second time. Let the Premier
answer and then we can move on to other questions.
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : The health minister's comments, he advises me, were
relating to the size of the rooms and the like, not the other —
Mr M. McGowan : So
he did say it.
Mr C.J. BARNETT :
If the Leader of the Opposition is so interested —
Several members interjected.
Mr C.J. BARNETT :
If you are so interested, have the commonsense, the basic parliamentary
intellect, to ask the minister. I was in China; ask him what he said!
