CHESTER COUPE — DIVERSE ECOTYPE ZONES
I refer to a recent report on diverse ecotype zones in Chester coupe outlined in a Forest Products Commission media release on 11 March 2009 and to information provided to the FPC by the Department of Environment and Conservation. (1) What is the estimated volume of — (a) first and second-grade jarrah logs; and (b) all other products that will come out of the 135 hectares to be harvested at Chester coupe as revised following the recent report on Chester coupe by the DEC? (2) When will the FPC conduct test tree marking within the coupe to determine exactly what is available for harvest for each class of sawlog and other products? (3) Will the minister provide the full report to the FPC from the DEC on the diverse ecotype zones in Chester coupe? (4) If no to (3), why not? Hon ROBYN McSWEENEY

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. The minister has replied — (1) (a)-(b) It is a total estimated volume of 1 250 to 1 350 cubic metres across all products. Hon Paul Llewellyn : What about the first and second-grade logs? That was the question. Hon ROBYN McSWEENEY : This is the answer that I am providing. The PRESIDENT : Order! Hon Paul Llewellyn should know that he should not interrupt the minister when she is giving him the answer to the question that he has asked. Hon ROBYN McSWEENEY : I continue — (2) Harvesting has been deferred until the 2010 harvesting season due to changes in road location as a result of the area being entirely affected by dieback and the need to undertake surveys in spring for rare flora along those alignments. (3) Yes, I will table the report at a later date. (4) Not applicable.
