TREASURER —
TELECOMMUNICATIONS EXPANSION
206. Mr M. McGOWAN to the
Treasurer:
I ask a supplementary question. When
the Treasurer says he did not announce the decision, why am I holding a press
release dated 8 May 2014, with the TreasurerXXX ###XXXs
face on it, announcing a $45 million grant as part of this telecommunications
project to Telstra, in which the Treasurer owns shares; and has the minister
not directly breached the Ministerial Code of Conduct by not excluding himself
from cabinet deliberations in relation to this grant that he made to this
company in which he owns shares?

The government did not make a grant; it gave a contract.
Telstra won a competitive bid to build the towers, and that was announced as
part of the budget.
