I thought the Leader of the
Opposition would be sick of asking this question because he has already asked
almost the same question before.
Mr
M. McGowan : What, Western Power?
Mr
D.T. REDMAN : Yes, he has. But, Leader of the Opposition, the premise
remains the same. The National Party has
taken the position that as and when assets are put up by the government to be
considered for privatisation or long-term lease, the National Party will
consider it and do its own due diligence.
Several members interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Armadale, I call you to order for the first time. If
you want to ask a question, put your name down.
Mr
D.T. REDMAN : There is a matter of public interest coming up in which there
will be an opportunity to expand on some of these discussions, but there is
certainly merit in having a close look at some of these assets. With regard to
Horizon Power's Pilbara assets, there has been an agenda for a long,
long time to try to get an integrated network in the northern area. That has
been on the table for some time. I think Hon Alannah MacTiernan had views about
it and tried to drive it. In consideration of what might or might not happen
with the privatisation of Western Power, to me it is those sorts of things that
need to come into the discussion, when there is the potential for some
significant outcomes for the people who live and work in the region, well
beyond what is delivered now. The National Party will consider those options
and we will do our own due diligence and state our position. These assets have
not been booked in the budget as sales; that happens when it gets to a particular
point in time.
