The Department of Health made a commitment to ongoing funding of the UWA Chair in Public Health, so as to enable the position to be advertised as a tenurable post and thus to attract an internationally competitive field of applicants. Subsequently, Professor Holman was appointed and his status was confirmed as tenured by the University after successfully serving the normal three-year probationary period. 4. The terms are those of the standard DOH service agreement. The DOH has committed to fund the chair for the full duration of the current incumbent's tenure of the position. 5. The initial commitment was made by then Commissioner of Health, Dr Peter Brennan on 22 April 1992. Assistant Commissioner, Dr Andrew Penman made an extension to this commitment on 30 November 1992 - committed to fund the Chair for the full duration of the current incumbent.
