Decarbonisation—LNG exports
1076. Hon Sophie McNeill to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
I refer to the
report commissioned by the Premier's office titled "Assessing the decarbonisation
role of Western Australia's LNG exports to Asia" and a government
spokesperson's claim that the final report was drafted and revised independent
of government.
(1) Can the Premier confirm that no government
feedback was provided to Deloitte on the draft that is dated December 2024,
prior to receiving the final version dated March 2025?
(2) What brief was provided to Deloitte when commissioning
the report?
(3) In the interests of transparency, can any
briefing material or correspondence with Deloitte regarding the report please
be tabled?
I seek leave to
table the draft report referenced in (1), please.
Leave denied.

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) The report referenced was prepared by Deloitte
and any suggestion that Deloitte changed its report based on external pressure
from the state government is incorrect. The draft report referenced in the
media appears to be an early working draft. It is standard practice for draft
reports to be refined and updated. Government departments, along with other
stakeholders, provide feedback through this process.
(2) The WA Government sought to engage a
consultant with liquefied natural gas (LNG) export market expertise to
undertake a study of the current and future role of WA sourced natural gas in
contributing to the efforts of WA's trading partners to reduce their emissions
and decarbonise their economies. This study was to support the government's
efforts to identify and navigate an optimised pathway to net zero emissions in
WA whilst supporting the decarbonisation of WA's trading partners.
