Planning—Review of planning instruments
335. Ms Kirrilee Warr to
the Minister for Emergency Services:
I have a
supplementary question.
Is the minister
prepared to tell the chamber today when was the last time the Department of
Fire and Emergency Services conferred with the Department of Health to
establish that need?
Several members
interjected.
The Speaker: Members! That was self-congratulatory.

I am having trouble
following the member's logic. The bottom line is that if there is a demand in
any particular part of the state and the operators—the people who
respond to the task, be it the Department of Fire and Emergency Services in conjunction
with the health authorities in a particular location or no doubt the police and
other service deliverers—determine that there is inadequate coverage,
they will deploy—
Point of order
Mr Lachlan Hunter: The member's question was about the
last time he received advice; she was not asking him to talk through the
process of receiving advice. The answer should be directly relevant to the
question.
The Speaker: I will not uphold that point of order,
member; the minister can respond how he likes.
Questions without notice resumed
Mr Paul Papalia: I am giving the answer. It is not the
one you want, but it is the answer you are getting!
In the event that
there is a perceived requirement, the agencies have all the authority in the
world to reassign. They can approach government if they need to, but I do not
think they need to because they have the aircraft, they have the capability,
they have the airframes and they have the personnel. They deploy them where
they want.
Several members
interjected.
Mr Paul Papalia: Right now, from the locations in
which they are deployed at the moment, on a single tank of fuel they can cover 91%
of the population of this state, where all the demand is right now.
Several members
interjected.
Mr Paul Papalia: With refuelling via cached fuel
stockpiles, which are all over the state, they can cover the entire state. I
will leave it to the operators, the people who know what they are doing, to
determine where they put their airframes. The member can keep asking me why she
does not have a personal aircraft. I would like one, too, but, ultimately, the
operators decide and it is based on demand.
The Speaker: Unfortunately, that concludes question
time.
