** Contractors were defined differently in 2008 and 2009 and appropriate data is not available for these reporting periods.
A number of factors have contributed to staff numbers increasing in the four year period from 2008 - 2012.  The implementation of the SAP Billing System in late 2009 resulted in more staff than expected needing to be engaged in order to stabilise the system expediently to minimise customer impacts.  Further to this, significant changes in the energy industry in the form of the Federal carbon tax have placed upward pressure on FTE numbers across the business to ensure Synergy is able to comply with its legislative requirements.  In addition, the increased complexity of issues affecting electricity consumers such as the significant uptake of solar panels, price increases and the delivery of important government support initiatives such as the Cost of Living Assistance payment have placed upward pressures on staffing levels as individual customer interactions require additional time to process and complete.
