I ask this question on behalf of Hon
Martin Aldridge, who is absent on urgent parliamentary business.
I refer to the recruitment campaign
announced by the minister on 17 March 2020, with the first wave focused on
clinical staff.
(1) What is the projected number of
clinical staff, by profession, that the campaign is seeking?
(2) How is the
state government assisting health professionals who are qualified and
experienced to fast track their registration?
(3) Has the state government engaged with the
Australian government on the need to fast track the registration of
health professionals who are qualified to assist in clinical settings?
(4) What is the current projected budget expenditure for WA
Health for the 2019–20 financial year?

at that date.
(1) There is not a specific number
of clinical staff being targeted.
(2) The
Department of Health is working with the Australian Health Practitioner
Regulation Agency and relevant boards to address this.
(3) In line with
the work that the state government is undertaking with the Australian Health
Practitioner Regulation Agency, work is being progressed by the Australian
government to ensure a coordinated national approach to meet the needs of state
and territory governments and the community in response to the COVID-19
pandemic.
(4) The current
approved budget for the Department of Health in 2019–20 is $9.2 billion.
To assist with the COVID-19 response, the commonwealth has committed an
additional $10.4 million to WA as an advance payment under the COVID-19
national partnership agreement. Ongoing funding contributions will be made to
ensure necessary funding is available for the WA health system to respond to
the COVID-19 pandemic under the terms of the ''National Partnership
Agreement on COVID-19 Response''. The state government has also recently
announced an additional funding allocation of $500 million for health and other
frontline service delivery and capacity for additional industry support.
