(1) I support decisions by local governments to introduce Council?controlled and enforced restrictions on smoking in alfresco dining areas.
(2) (a - b) Further reforms may be made once all the issues have been fully considered by the Government, including a recent review undertaken by the Department of Health on smoking in public alfresco dining areas, at beaches and in private cars with passengers, particularly child passengers.
(3) Local governments (Fremantle, Perth and Vincent) are responsible for the smoking restrictions that have been recently publicised in these areas. The implementation of alfresco smoking restrictions in Fremantle has successfully demonstrated that such measures are largely self-regulatory, and have not resulted in resourcing issues. The State Government is supportive of these initiatives as undertaken by individual local governments and will continue to monitor developments.
