PRACTICAL DRIVING
ASSESSMENTS
262. Hon JAMES HAYWARD to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the
availability of practical driving assessments, PDAs, conducted by the
Department of Transport.
(1) When are the
next available PDA appointments at each location where these tests are
conducted?
(2) What is the
average pass/fail rate of PDAs at each of these testing locations?
(3) Is the
minister concerned about waiting times for PDAs, as well as the economic and
mental health impacts on learner drivers who experience long waiting periods?
(4) Is the
minister concerned about the failure rates of PDA participants, and what are
the underlying reasons for the current failure rates?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The online
booking system is live and can be accessed 24 hours a day. Dates are released
for tests several months in advance and bookings for dates prior to this are
also released on a daily basis for each driver and vehicle services centre.
(2) In
relation to C-class driving assessments, the information is in tabular form so
I seek leave to incorporate the answer to (2) into Hansard .

(3)–(4) Candidates are encouraged to regularly check the
online booking system as availability is updated frequently.
Candidates are also encouraged to
gain as much driving experience as possible to improve their driving ability
prior to booking their assessment. The top reasons for failing include failing
to give way, failing to comply with a regulatory
sign, failure to safely navigate a roundabout, driving on the wrong side of the road and speeding—in your test!
