The Minister Replied:
(1) - (4) Following the flood, a local recovery committee was established to consider applications for personal hardship under the Disaster Relief Assistance Scheme. A total of 138 claims were received and funds totalling $251,600 were disbursed. In addition, a further $21,094 was provided by the Government of immediate aid for emergency accommodation, food and rent assistance.
The Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund was also activated.
The Government also committed up to $2.5 million for the Carnarvon Farm Recovery Scheme to establish the productive capacity of flood affected farms through soil replacement, levelling and soil rejuvenation. Agriculture Western Australia also provided specialist horticulture services to assist producers.
As an additional measure the Government agreed to the establishment of an interest subsidised loan scheme to assist eligible affected small businesses, primary producers and station owners.
Any Carnarvon resident still experiencing difficulty as a direct result of the flooding should contact either the local recovery committee or the appropriate Government agency such as the Department of Family and Children's Services, Agriculture Western Australia or the Gascoyne Development Commission.
