I thank the member for the question.
The following information has been provided by the Minister for Fisheries.
(1) The
Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development received reports from
the public in late June and early July this year of dead fish on beaches around
Steep Point.
(2) Following the
reports, DPIRD officers investigated the incident and determined that the fish
kill event involved an estimated 2 000 to 3 000 fish made up of 20 different
species. Fish samples were collected but were too badly decomposed to be tested
to determine the cause of the fish kill. DPIRD officers will continue to
monitor the situation.
