BUILDING FOR TOMORROW CAMPAIGN — INCOMPLETE
PROJECTS
1150. Hon NEIL THOMSON to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
I
refer to the minister's answer to question without notice 1118 in which
the minister indicated that the Great Eastern Highway Bypass upgrades do
not yet have their final regulatory approval. I note the project involves
upgrading the bypass in Hazelmere, including the construction of interchanges
at Roe Highway and Abernathy Road, and will provide 1 200 jobs.
(1) What regulatory approvals are
still outstanding?
(2) When is it
anticipated those approvals will be granted?
(3) Given that
the project commenced in 2022 and noting the piles of sand in anticipation for
overpasses and its scheduled completion by 2024, why have these approvals not
been finalised to ensure the project continues seamlessly?
(4) When will the
project be completed?
The PRESIDENT : That was a question
without notice of which some notice has been given, so it is not a direct
question. Minister for Emergency Services.

Thanks,
President. It was not a direct question, of course, because the Minister for
Transport is not here. I thank the honourable member for some notice of
the question. I provide this answer on behalf of the Minister for Transport.
(1) It is the
environmental approvals and approvals from Perth Airport Pty Ltd and tenants.
(2) Timing will
ultimately be determined by the respective regulators.
(3) Approvals
have been impacted by the complexity of negotiations required.
(4) A revised construction timetable and completion
date will be finalised once outstanding approvals are secured.
