SOUTH BEACH VILLAGE - LANDCORP SECTION
Can the minister explain why the Department of Environment has not responded to the request by the City of Fremantle for an independent audit of the LandCorp section of the South Beach village? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the member for some notice of this question.  The City of Fremantle’s request for an independent audit of the LandCorp section of the South Beach village was addressed to the Minister for the Environment; Racing and Gaming, and not to the Department of Environment.  The minister responded to the City of Fremantle on 19 May 2006.  In the response, the minister advised the City of Fremantle that, given that the works completed by LandCorp had been assessed by experts from both the Department of Health and the Department of Environment, it was not considered that further review of LandCorp’s work was necessary.  Representatives from the minister’s office and officers of the Department of Environment also provided this advice to the City of Fremantle at a meeting held at the minister’s office on 13 April 2006. The minister has been advised that the investigation, remediation and validation works completed by LandCorp were in compliance with the Department of Environment’s guidelines and expectations.  The Department of Housing and Works has advised that it considers the site to be suitable for residential development.
