I refer to question on notice No. 1063 in relation to 'fit for custody' assessments conducted at Geraldton Hospital, and I ask: (a) why does the hospital not record data on such assessments being undertaken by medical practitioners; (b) how does the hospital issue a 'fit for custody' assessment to Western Australia Police or another relevant agency; and (c) how does the hospital retain records on such assessments or certificates issued to relevant agencies?

I am advised that:
(a)-(c) WA Country Health Service (WACHS) staff at Geraldton Hospital provide information to WA Police consistent with information contained on the Medical Discharge Summary. The Medical Discharge summary forms part of the medical record retained by WACHS hospitals. A fitness for custody assessment is not issued. The Western Australia Police Force advise that it ceased using the terminology ‘Fit for Custody’ on 11 April 2016.
