The Minister Replied:
(1) A full time Consultant Psychiatrist from the South West Mental Health Service who was working at the Acute Psychiatric Unit at the South West Health Campus, Bunbury has resigned, effective from the 29th September 2000.
(2) He applied for, was appointed and has taken up another full time position at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth.
Arrangements have already been made and are now operational to provide improved medical coverage for both the Acute Psychiatric Unit and for the greater community based South West Mental Health Service.
The funding made available from the original one full time position has been used to increase the available hours of two other existing South West Mental Health Service community based "adult" Consultant Psychiatrists to full time. They are now providing both inpatient and community care for SouthWest patients along a client centred geographically based multi-disciplinary treatment team model.
There remains another part time "adult" community Consultant Psychiatrist still working with the South West Mental Health Service in the same treatment model as described and a visiting Child and Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist.
There remains the equivalent of one full-time Consultant Psychiatrist for the Acute Psychiatric Unit.
