(1) Why has the Minister failed to meet with the residents of Riverfarm Road in Kununurra, who are seeking to express their opposition to the current preferred route for the road and new Ord River bridge alignment for the proposed heavy vehicle route to by-pass Kununurra?
(2) Has the Minister received representations indicating that the area where the new Ord River Bridge is proposed is on an area that is just 840 metres from homes on Riverfarm Road in Kununurra?
(3) Is the Minister aware that this part of the Ord River is undeveloped and is still in its natural state and that the river banks are now covered with bamboo (making it a breeding area for many varieties of finches, including manikin, double bar, zebra, blood and star), that there are many small water lilies along the bank, that the golden bandicoot has returned to this area and that there is now an abundance of wallabies?
(4) Is the Minister aware that this riparian area is home and breeding area for freshwater and saltwater crocodiles, Burdekin ducks, jacanas, night heron and hundreds of different birdlife species?
(5) Is the Minister aware that these plants and aquatic weeds help to keep the river healthy and assist with the stabilisation of the banks?
(6) Does the Minister accept that there are other sites that could be considered that are less likely to impact on the crossing of the Ord River than in this environmentally sensitive area?
(7) Does the Minister appreciate that the residents of Riverfarm Road are extremely disappointed that a full public consultation was not undertaken with them and that they urgently request consideration be given to an alternative site as an urgent priority?
