METRO AREA EXPRESS PROJECT — FEDERAL
FUNDING
824. Ms R. SAFFIOTI to the
Treasurer:
I have a supplementary question. On Friday, when the
Treasurer asks for funding for MAX and the federal Treasurer asks what the
project entails, what is the Treasurer going to say?

AnswerView source ↗

I am going to say that, first of all —
Ms R. Saffioti :
You don't know where it starts, you don't where it finishes,
and you don't know if it is rail or bus.
Dr M.D. NAHAN : It
is very strange that in this place people ask a question and then answer it
themselves.
Ms R. Saffioti :
You had a name for it.
Dr M.D. NAHAN :
Another heckler! A parliamentarian or a heckler—what are you? You asked
the question. Let me answer it.
Several members interjected.
Mr C.J. Barnett :
Most of their members aren't even here. Look at that.
Dr M.D. NAHAN :
Yes, look at them. They are really into this stuff.
Several members interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Members!
Dr M.D. NAHAN : We
are, as the transport minister —
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Right, now you are not going to believe this, but we have been going for 40
minutes and I have not called one person to order. Can you please let the
Treasurer answer the question.
Several members interjected.
Dr M.D. NAHAN : Was
that a request?
The
SPEAKER : Quick answer, please.
Dr M.D. NAHAN : As
the transport minister has responded to many questions in this house, including
from the member, we are still working out the effective character of Metro Area
Express rail, and I am sure that our colleagues in Canberra will accept that.
The reason is that we want to make sure we get the best outcome for the lowest
investment. Members opposite are out there putting up ideals; we are out there
delivering.
