1. Capital upgrades and new housing in remote Indigenous communities is funded by the Commonwealth Government under the National Partnership Agreement on Remote Indigenous Housing (NPA). Eligible communities must have a formal housing management agreement in place with the Department of Housing. 141 communities currently receive housing management service funded by the State and a repairs and maintenance service funded by the NPA. It is not known at this stage how many Communities will receive housing upgrades, however the agreed targets under the NPA are 1025 houses over the course of the Agreement including 150 houses in 2009/2010.
2. The Commonwealth Government has provided $496.53 million until 30 June 2013 for housing and related infrastructure. The relative proportion of this expenditure for housing upgrades is being determined in negotiation with the Commonwealth Government.
3. See part 1.
4. Funding priorities are determined through a Joint Steering Committee of senior Commonwealth and State Government officials. The Steering Committee is established under the Implementation Plan for the NPA.
