Smoking—Migration
927. Hon Rod Caddies to
the Leader of the House representing the
Premier:
I refer to the
Premier's comments blaming migrants for increased smoking rates.
(1) Will the Premier apologise for demonising
migrants by blaming them for increased smoking rates in Western Australia?
(2) Will the Premier confirm that record levels of
migration to Western Australia are contributing to increased pressures on our
health system and housing supply?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. Pot and kettle comes to mind.
(1)–(2) With increased population, smoking
will increase, and with new families calling WA home, it is important that we educate
children on the dangers of smoking and crack down on illicit tobacco and
vaping.
