I refer to the proposed resort development on Rottnest Island, and I ask -
(1) From where will the proposed resort be sourcing its water supply?
(2) Will the proposed resort be responsible for creating its own electricity supply, or at least required to contribute via solar panels or a wind turbine?

(1) The Rottnest Island Authority (RIA) is seeking to obtain the best possible environmental and sustainability outcomes in the development and operation of the proposed resort. Rottnest Island has a limited supply of fresh potable water that requires careful conservation to ensure there are sufficient supplies to meet current and future demand.
The RIA will therefore work with the proponent as part of the final negotiations to determine how best to service the proposed resort with water.
Rottnest already has in place measures such as the desalination plant that helps supply the Island requirements that the hotel has the ability to connect into if required. Costs associated with any required upgrades and consumption will be the developer's responsibility.
The development will need to meet the RIA's guidelines for sustainable development on Rottnest Island. As such, it must demonstrate an approach to water conservation with the objective of reducing general demands.
(2) The RIA will work with the proponent as part of the final negotiations to determine how the appropriate infrastructure and services (including electricity) will be best delivered. The proponent will be responsible for costs involved with upgrading services to the development beyond Rottnest's current capacity. The development will need to meet the RIA's guidelines for sustainable development on Rottnest Island.
