Boorloo Bridge
1070. Hon Steve Martin to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the $187 million
Boorloo Bridge, opened less than a year ago, and reports on 17 November that
heavy-duty lighting casing fell from the structure, reportedly just missing a
passing cyclist.
(1) What was the cause of the incident?
(2) What steps are being taken by Main Roads WA to
address the problem?
(3) When is the bridge currently expected to
reopen?
(4) Has Main Roads been in contact with the
cyclist mentioned in the Claire Sadler article in The
West Australian ?
(5) Will the minister commit to tabling a full report
of the Main Roads investigation in Parliament?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question and provide the following
answer on behalf of the Minister for Transport.
(1)–(5) The cause of the incident is still
being investigated. The bridge is expected to be reopened by close of business
Thursday. The Western Australia Police Force advised Main Roads staff onsite
that the cyclist involved did not wish to provide details or be contacted.
