I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question and answer on behalf of the Attorney General.
This government implemented a $655 million custodial
infrastructure program that has seen the completion of a number of significant
upgrades and builds. Following the announcement of this program, a decision was
taken to convert Eastern Goldfields Regional Prison from a capital spend to a
public–private partnership. As such, this is no longer classified as a
capital spend in financial terms, and therefore the Eastern Goldfields Regional
Prison build has not been included in the response to question without notice
615. The figure provided in response to question without notice 615 does not
include any recurrent expenditure from our maintenance and upgrade budgets, and
therefore does not include the additional 115 beds at Bandyup Women's
Prison.
