RESOURCES COMPANIES, PAYMENT OF RATES TO LOCAL COUNCILS
I refer the minister to the decision made by the former Minister for State Development during the election campaign that resources companies that operate under state agreement acts will be required to pay rates to local councils in exchange for any future increases in tonnages. (1) Is this a correct interpretation of the government’s policy; and, if so, when will the new policy be implemented? (2) If this is not a correct interpretation of the government’s policy, what is the government’s policy? Hon JON FORD
