GEOFF BROCK — MEETING WITH PREMIER
109. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the Leader of the House representing the Premier :
I refer to a report
published by the ABC on 24 November 2011 titled ''MP pushes for the
Kimberley to Murray pipeline'' and the Premier's meeting with Mr
Geoff Brock, MHA, of South Australia.
(1) Is the Premier aware of any newfound
support from Western Australian parliamentarians with which Mr Brock intends to
use to lobby for a Kimberley to Murray pipeline?
(2) If no to (1), why
not?
(3) If yes to (1), will the Premier reveal
the identities of those parliamentarians he is aware of who support Mr Brock's
proposal?
(4) If no to (3), why not?
(5) Is the Premier
among the supporters of Mr Brock's proposal?
(6) If yes to (5),
why?
(7) If no to (5), why not?

I thank the member
for some notice of the question.
(1)–(7) The government's decision to double
the capacity of the Southern Seawater Desalination Plant is a major step in
providing water security to households in the greater Perth region, Kalgoorlie
and parts of the south west, even in the driest years. Together with continuing
to promote greater water efficiencies or investment in alternative water
sources, including options to acquire groundwater from deeper, confined
aquifers as well as recharging aquifers with recycled waste water, we are meeting
the challenges of our drying climate.
