I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
As at 22 October 2015, the following
numbers of staff in each category are on fixed-term contracts —
(a) education assistants: 1 050
headcount, representing 630.12 full-time equivalents;
(b) cleaners: 412 headcount,
representing 202.74 FTE; and
(c) gardeners: 125 headcount,
representing 67.25 FTE.
Principals employ staff on
fixed-term contracts to backfill education assistants, cleaners and gardeners
on leave; for example, long service leave, sick leave, workersXXX ###XXX
compensation and parental leave.
