I thank the member for the question
and for some notice of the question.
This Regional Connectivity Program
is a joint commonwealth–state program in terms of its investment, but
the commonwealth, which has constitutional responsibility for
telecommunications, is responsible for entering into the contracts with the service providers. Typically, it takes from three
to nine months to finalise the agreement with the service provider. I am
advised that none has been formalised to date. There will be a further 12 to 36
months for these projects to be delivered after the agreement has been done. I have
asked my department to work very closely with the commonwealth to encourage
progress on these important projects and to seek an update from the
commonwealth on where the progress is at for each one of them.
