HOUSING AFFORDABILITY
This morning I was with Sylvia and Shane Molloy, constituents of mine whose baby unfortunately has spina bifida. They are struggling with the cost of living and housing affordability. Homeswest treated them with complete disregard and a lack of respect and they received indifferent advice about their attempts to make an application. In fact, this application for housing assistance from the Department of Housing was only accepted yesterday, following the direct involvement of my office. (1) Is it acceptable in a state as rich as Western Australia that a young couple should be left in that situation? (2) Will the Premier undertake to intervene in this matter and have the Minister for Housing get his mind back on the job of leadership? Mr C.J. BARNETT

I thank the member for the question. (1)–(2) I am not aware of the details of that couple, I have just been passed a note that I have not had the opportunity to read. I will certainly talk the Minister for Housing about their circumstance. I do not want to see anyone in this state in hardship or in such desperate circumstances, but I do not know the details of this particular case.
