Some notice of this question has been given. The minister will be aware that Albert Corunna, who is a member of the combined metropolitan working group, and Neil Phillips have lodged a section 10 claim under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage Protection Act over a section of Portman Mining’s proposed iron ore expansion in the Yilgarn. Neither of these men have a registered claim over the area in question, and, indeed, they could not sustain one. (1) Will the minister draw this to the attention of the federal Minister for Immigration, Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs? (2) Will the minister also impress upon the federal minister the importance of time in relation to the expansion necessary to keep the company’s iron ore process going? (3) Will the minister ask the federal minister to reject the frivolous claims so Portman Mining can proceed with the necessary and long-overdue development? Hon TOM STEPHENS
