The Minister Replied:
(a) The proposed Derby Tidal Power Project requires not only the area commonly referred to as Doctor's Creek but also land for road access to the tidal power station, easements for 500km of transmission power lines and also land for the back-up diesel or LPG fired power stations in the towns of Broome, Derby and Fitzroy Crossing. Ownership of land in some instances such as the area of Doctor's Creek and the road easements for the transmission lines rests with the Crown. However, ownership of other land requirements including that for the back-up power stations is unclear as the proponent for the Derby Tidal Power Project had not finalised its land requirements at the time of submitting its proposal.
(b) The Government policy is that Tidal Energy Australia was a bidder in an open and commercial power procurement process and as an unsuccessful bidder has no further status under this process in the provision of power to Western Power for its distribution in the West Kimberley region.
