I thank the member
for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me
by the Minister for Racing and Gaming. The minister advises as follows.
(1) The Cook government supports Western
Australia's greyhound racing industry and acknowledges the economic, social and
community benefits it creates, with the industry generating more than $225 million
annually and supporting more than 1,700 jobs. The greyhound racing industry
does not receive funding from state government general revenue. The racing
industry is funded directly and indirectly by wagering activity, with funding
streams including profits from the WA TAB and revenue and taxes derived from
wagering activities on WA races.
(2) No.
