(a) Design and documentation of the works has commenced.
(i) The project is comprised of the Orchestra Pit Upgrade and the Front of House works.
(ii) In summary, the scope of work includes:
ORCHESTRA PIT
- Demolition works
- Enhancement of existing structure to meet requirements
- New air handling system and upgrade of HVAC
- Associated electrical works
- Replacement of lower auditorium Juliette balconies
- Installation of orchestra pit lift/platform and platform floor finish and supporting structure
- Installation of safety systems
- Installation of acoustic treatments to orchestra pit
- Alterations to fire system as required
FRONT OF HOUSE
- Demolition works
- Upgrades to Downstairs at the Maj at Basement Level, Barre Café and Box Office at
- Ground Level and Dress Circle Bar on Level One; enhanced functionality and improved patron circulation up and through the building, reducing congestion and overspill onto Hay Street.
- New signage
- Improved universal access
- Associated mechanical, electrical and hydraulic services alterations and upgrades
- Alterations to fire system as required
(iii) The estimated cost of the upgrade of the Orchestra Pit Upgrade is $2.9million including professional fees, application fees and contingencies and excluding GST.  The scope and cost of the Front of House works will be tailored to equal the remaining $3.6 million in funding.
(b) The works are required to be carried out in two phases during the December 2018 – January 2019 and December 2019 – January 2020 shutdown periods to minimise impact on the ongoing function of the venue and loss of revenue.  The works will be completed by February 2020.
(c) It is anticipated that the works will be completed by February 2020.
(d) To date $24,098 excluding GST has been expended and a further $1.3 million in professional fees has been committed.
