The government is attempting to
provide as much accurate and succinct information as possible to the general
public about this issue. We find in the modern, social media world that there
is so much information. A lot of that information is inaccurate, and a lot of
it comes from inaccurate sources. There are a lot of rumours and innuendo out
there and a lot of speculation. A lot of it depends upon what someone might
have heard somewhere that they have put
online, and, in some people's minds, that then becomes fact. Therefore,
I urge everyone to go to the primary sources. The Western Australian
government website has regular updates. Indeed, the Minister for Health and I are
regularly providing Facebook updates. We are regularly advertising in The
West Australian and elsewhere to provide accurate and up-to-date
information. The Department of Health has set up a hotline if people wish to
obtain any further information. We are looking at what else we can do to
provide information. But I think that the major problem here across the
community is that there are too many sources of information and there is too
much information from all over the world
that creates the speculation. I just urge everyone when seeking facts to go
either to the Western Australian government's website or indeed
the commonwealth government's website. As I have said, there is a unique
situation in Australia now in that there is a national cabinet, led by the
Prime Minister, with Premiers who are both Labor and Liberal as part of it, and
we are determined to ensure that we provide accurate, succinct and
straightforward information and sensible decision-making across the country.
