ROELANDS
ROAD TRAIN ASSEMBLY AREA
452. Hon SALLY TALBOT to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the restrictions on assembly and disassembly at
the Roelands road train assembly—RTA—area.
(1) Was the
decision to close the Roelands RTA to night-time assembly and disassembly in
response to calls for lighting and improved safety?
(2) Does the
government intend to make improvements to the Roelands RTA so that night-time
assembly and disassembly can continue?
(3) If no to (2); why?
(4) What other
options are available to road train drivers to assemble and disassemble in the Collie–Roelands
area before entering roads not permitted to road trains?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of this question.
(1) Main Roads installed a sign advising of
daylight use only in response to advice from WorkSafe that operators should not
assemble or disassemble at night without adequate lighting.
(2) No.
(3)–(4) Operators can use the area
at night if they provide their own lighting. Main Roads is also investigating
alternative arrangement options.
